Infonation has launched a new dedicated website for the DVD version of Beyond Babel. This site reflects the continued popularity of the series in academic settings around the world. It includes a selection of video clips, an extensive web directory and for the first time an on-line shop, where copies of the series may be purchased.
The British Council has adopted Beyond Babel as a teaching tool for India and China. Initially distributed to to participants of China-India ELT event in May 2009, six thousand DVD copies of this award winning television series are to be distributed in Council offices throughout India and China. This follows in the continued adoption of Beyond Babel as a teaching resource in Universities around the world.
Infonation Media has just completed an interactive CD ROM, Under One Umbrella, which profiles the role of young people across the Commonwealth. The CD ROM is based around a thirty minute broadcast documentary produced by Infonation; filmed in Africa, India, the Caribbean and Tonga in the South Pacific. The project, which took eight months to complete, includes individual diaries of featured contributors and an extensive directory of Commonwealth Youth organizations with direct links to the Internet.
The documentary is scheduled for broadcast on Commonwealth Day, and the CD ROM will be distributed to youth organizations throughout the Commonwealth.
The DVD edition of Infonation’s television series Beyond Babel, which explores the global impact of the English language, has won a Silver at this year’s IVCA Awards. The DVD, which has commentary and subtitles in five languages, features the original four part series along with two and a half hours of new material. Beyond Babel has been authored in both PAL and NTSC versions and is supported with scripts and web-links on the Infonation web site. Beyond Babel – DVD Edition has been designed for use in an academic context and will form a valuable addition to the study of English around the world.
